Bo Diddley – “Pills”

The Rock was talking to Stuff about some square-shaped guitar the other night at rehearsal. Don’t really know what the coversation was about, but it reminded me of Bo Diddley and his trademark guitar. I always have at least a couple of Bo-songs on my playlists and this is one of my favourites.

LaVern Baker – “Voodoo Voodoo”

When we decided on the title for the album I started checking out “voodoo-songs” by different artists. Of course there’s all those great Screamin’ Jay Hawkins songs, but a little further along  in my search I came across this gem by LaVern Baker. “He done voodoo doodoo-ed me!”

Mötley Crüe – Same Ol’ Situation

Mötley‘s finest hour. It’s kind of like their “You Shook Me All Night Long” in my mind. I always get a kick out of the video to it too.

Taj Mahal – “Johnny Too Bad”

Went to a Taj Mahal concert the other week. Been listening to him for a long time and it was truly a treat to get to see one the last great bluesmen up close. It was an amazing show.
Outside of the blues Taj has a whole list of musical genres on his repertoire and Johnny Too Bad is of course the classic reggae song by The Slickers. The original has nothing on Taj’s version though. Love the line “Struttin’ up from shanty town with a pistol in your waist – Johnny you’re too bad” just as the song fades out. Makes you wonder what happens next…

ALWAYS great to play in Landskrona, and this was no exception!

Me, Maniac, 3B and Stuff went to see our buddies in Close Quarters open for The Quireboys at KB in Malmö, Sweden, last night.
Amazing show and great night. The after party was a lot of fun, ran into lots of old and new friends, and the after party to the after party at Maniac’s place later on was the icing on the cake

To distract myself from the symtoms of being hungover today I took the time to upload a bunch of photos to the Killer Clan of F.U.N. and Friends album (pictures of  friends and people we meet on the road, and elsewhere) that’s been lying around for a while. Some cool ones from the Skogsröjet festival earlier this summer and couple from last night too.

Back when we were writing the first album I was heavily into soul music (still am) and especially Joe Tex. I was fascinated by the groove of the song Have You Ever and tried put that feel into our song Tellin’ Lies. A true case of missing the mark, but check them out! There’s definitely some similarities to the riffs, wouldn’t you say?

Just a few days now to the “The World Of Voodoo” release party and that song “Tellin’ Lies” will re-surface in one of our live sets that night, but in a totally re-arranged version (largely thanks to The Rock who really got a knack for picking things apart and putting them back together again)

The release party for our new album “The World Of Voodoo” is approaching fast. Next Saturday the 27th is the date and Mejeriet in Lund, Sweden is the venue.

Tonight is the first rehearsal for the event and there’s a lot of ground to be covered. We will be doing an electric set showcasing the album from front to back, playing all the songs in the same order as on the album, and there’s a few of them we haven’t played in a while.

To kick off the party we’re also doing an acoustic set of songs from the first album along with some surprises. We’ve gotten a lot of song requests from the first album lately, some which we haven’t played live since before Stuff joined the band even.

So the work’s cut out. Let’s get to it!
